Another Black Person Misidentified by Facial Recognition and Wrongly Arrested
She was eight months pregnant at the time

Porcha Woodruff is the first woman to be wrongly accused of a crime by facial recognition.

Handcuffed in front of her home on a Thursday morning last February, leaving her crying children with her fiancé, Ms. Woodruff was taken to the Detroit Detention Center. She said she was held for 11 hours, questioned about a crime she said she had no knowledge of, and had her iPhone seized to be searched for evidence.

“I was having contractions in the holding cell. My back was sending me sharp pains. I was having spasms. I think I was probably having a panic attack,” said Ms. Woodruff, a licensed aesthetician and nursing school student. “I was hurting, sitting on those concrete benches.”

Now let's do white pregnant woman and see how the cops treat her. Oh right, they won't even bother because they'll do the proper investigatory steps rather than rush to an arrest.

It's easier to run roughshod over people who are perceived to have little to no money.

Anyway, how did they even match her photo?

According to city documents, the department uses a facial recognition vendor called DataWorks Plus to run unknown faces against a database of criminal mug shots; the system returns matches ranked by their likelihood of being the same person. A human analyst is ultimately responsible for deciding if any of the matches are a potential suspect. The police report said the crime analyst gave the investigator Ms. Woodruff’s name based on a match to a 2015 mug shot. Ms. Woodruff said in an interview that she had been arrested in 2015 after being pulled over while driving with an expired license.

Oh right, taking mugshots of people for non violent traffic offenses. Probably a first offense too. Now why can't you just confiscate their driver's license and impound the car while letting the person go home again? Nah, gotta cause them as much hardship as possible for expired license. A victimless "crime". The horror of those who drive with an expired license. The horrrooorrrrr. Who died that day?

Let's be real, this is a sh*t system that once you are put in in any way makes any and every attempt to bring you back. This facial recognition crap is more proof of it. They say they don't want you in there, but it's bs. It's how they make money and when it is illegal for criminal justice system to be profitable will be the time of less crime by desperate people.

Porcha Woodruff must sue the accusers and abusers.
